GALA Choruses inspires and strengthens the international Lesbian and Gay community. Through its programmes, GALA Choruses promotes excellence while building bridges of respect and understanding. It is the world's only association committed to serving the lesbian and gay choral movement. The 160 member choruses and 8,000 singers are supported to be strong--artistically and professionally.
GALA Choruses fosters the artistic and organisational development of member choruses through programmes and services. Choral festivals, educational conferences and publications are produced. It engages in advocacy; provides grants for the commissioning of new choral works; facilitates networking amongst members; and serves as a resource centre for choruses and individual members.
GALA Choruses was formed in 1982 by 14 choruses. The association has grown ever since with new choruses joining at the rate of one per month. Individuals, small ensembles and other organizations may also join. Member choruses range in size from five to 252 singers and
are located throughout North America, Europe and Australia.
