Out There Recreational Paintball League
The Recreational Paintball League is a fun
and exciting sport under the Out There Sports umbrella. The group will
meet during weekends. Events and locations differ depending on the
season and on the current weather trends. There is a $2 dollar per game,
but that fee is waived if you bring a friend to any event to play.
Members can bring their own equipment or are free to rent from the venue
(rental costs will be carried by the player). Carpooling is suggested
for going to events; locations and maps will be emailed to members two
weeks prior to the event. Paintball events will commence in July 2010.
If you are interested in playing or for more information please contact
Felicity or Dave at
outthererpl@gmail.com

Out There Sports & Recreation
Mail List:
A mail list has been created to
consolidate all the mail lists held by various people involved in the
many sports and activities of the Out There groups. This list enables
YOU to control your incoming email from whatever sport/activity your
interested in, and to not have our email address published. Currently
there are over 190 members on the list. Some of the features are:
1- Each person subscribes and un-subscribes
himself/herself, either by email or visiting a special Web page:
http://lists.umanitoba.ca/mailman/listinfo/out-there
2. Everybody who is on the mailing list
can post THEIR OWN messages directly to the list, without having to go
through the list owner first. Any replies to such messages will go back
to the original poster and not to the whole list. In this way, people
can spontaneously organize their own events, etc. without having to have
the list owner post a message for them.
**Note- You MUST post from the email
address that you are subscribed with. Messages posted from any another
email address will be not sent out and rejected.
3. Users can set themselves up for special features such as, the
automatic removal of duplicate messages. This is available from the
Subscriber settings page.
4. Older messages are archived and
available only to the subscribed members via a
special Web page.
5 The email list is for sport and
recreation related messages ONLY. Sorry, but unrelated political,
social, fundraising, advertising or survey messages are NOT permitted
and will result in immediate termination of access.

Out There Badminton!
When: Friday evenings, 8 to 10 pm, beginning September 10
(from the first Friday after Labour Day until about December 3)
Where: River Osborne Community Centre (at Confusion Corner, SW corner of
Pembina and Corydon).
This is a very good venue: 3 courts, a very high ceiling and no
interference from basketball nets. Parking on Corydon, on McMillan Ave
(north side of the building) or in behind (off the little lane behind
the centre; the lanes runs off Corydon).
Fees: $60 for the semester (up to 12 sessions). Drop-in fee will be
$6.00. (Fees may be adjusted slightly, depending on the number of
participants).
You are invited to bring your own racket, though we will have a few on
hand to lend. We will also supply plastic birds.
We will normally play doubles, allowing up to 12 to play at a time,
rotating after every game, and encouraging people to play with different
partners every game so as to favour more social interaction
All skill levels are welcome. So far there has been interest and
enthusiasm expressed by experienced players and beginners, women and
men.
This will be a lgbt / straight-friendly activity. Please feel invited to
bring along your friends. More people means more fun – and lower fees!
We are grateful to the Manitoba Badminton Association for having
accepted to take us under their umbrella. We will give you the option of
joining the MBA when you pay your fees.
http://badminton.mb.ca
We would invite you to show up before 8 pm in order to sign a waiver,
pay your fees, and take a little time to stretch and warm-up. Two hours
can go by ever so fast when you are having fun – so we don’t want to
lose a precious minute of our court time!
If you are interested in joining us for the semester or as an occasional
drop-in player (and if you have not yet contacted us or filled out a
survey), please contact Thomas at
tnovak@mymts.net (or phone 287-8583).
Proposed Out There Hiking Schedule for
Summer/Fall 2010
We propose that, as a general
rule, to hike on the 3rd Sunday of the month (with the exception of this
month, to avoid Fathers’ Day and because the 27th was the more popular
date in a recent survey).
Dates and locations:
August 15 Hecla Island (Quarry Trail)
September 19 One of the more demanding trails in the Whiteshell or
Eastern Manitoba
October 10 or 17 Centennial Trail (Whiteshell)
These dates are, of course subject to weather and to other unforeseeable
circumstances. For confirmation contact Thomas at
tnovak@mymts.net
Curling:
Weekly curling is
Sunday afternoons, at the Granite Curling
Club,
22 Mostyn Place
(just west of the Legislative Building /Osborne
Street)
Email us or call
Theresa (President) at 782 9454 or Sharon (Treasurer) at 221 3025
Keystone Rainbow Webpage
Hiking:
Monthly hiking trips are organized by volunteers. We usually hike on a
Saturday or Sunday, exploring scenic trails within a few hours drive
from Winnipeg. If you would be interested in organizing a hike, pick a
date, pick a trail, then make a posting to the list serve and the web
site. We encourage car pooling.
We are
aiming for one hike per month, avoiding long weekends and major
holidays. Traditionally we have planned a shorter hike (on a trail not
to far from the city) in early summer, a trail near a good swimming spot
in the hottest months, a couple of challenging trails in the cooler days
of autumn.
This schedule is tentative and only a starting point. If you would like
to organize an event on one of the days planned or on another day, that
would be great. Pick a day, pick a trail, and send out the info. If you
are new to the process and would like help getting started, contact
Thomas at
tnovak@mymts.net
Details do change, depending on weather. To get the latest about
each hike either subscribe to the email list or contact Thomas at
tnovak@mymts.net
